O complexo abaluartado de Campo Maior, que permanece na sua identidade arquitectónica e na estrutura física, corresponde ao quadrante Nascente/ Sul / Poente. O estado de conservação oscila entre troços estáveis com anomalias controláveis e troços com derrocadas globais afectando os paramentos ou escarpas, cordão, merlões e canhoeiras. Também os terraços superiores bem como os seus limites interiores apresentam diferentes graus de degradação, incidindo sobretudo nos muros de contenção e no parapeito ou caminho de ronda que, em conjunto com parte substancial das canhoeiras e respectivos merlões, desapareceram. A unidade estética está, contudo, reconhecível, apesar de fracturada e/ ou desmontada em alguns lugares. A Porta de Lisboa e a Capela de São Sebastião são os elementos de maior expressividade. No entanto, um conjunto significativo de canhoeiras ainda complementa a leitura do sistema militar.

 

O baluarte de São Sebastião caracteriza-se pela integração da Capela, de fundação anterior à construção do sistema amuralhado que envolve e protege a Vila de Campo Maior. A intervenção que se prevê tem por objectivo a refuncionalização do espaço, pelo que se propõe a reconstrução da abobadilha e a reposição da cobertura de telha cerâmica sobre uma armação de madeira. Serão repostas as caixilharias em madeira e a porta principal terá implantada no plano interior uma grade que permitirá a observação do espaço e, em simultâneo, o arejamento. Propõe-se ainda a reposição do pavimento cerâmico, a reparação das paredes e a valorização do património integrado.

Campo Maior, a medieval military fortification, remains in its architectural identity and physical structure in the East / South / West quadrant. The physical condition varies, between stable sections with controllable problems and sections with structural problems that affect theidentitary elements of a military. The upper terraces, as well as their interior boundaries, show different degrees of degradation, especially in the containment walls and the parapet, which have disappeared. The aesthetic unit is, however, recognizable, although it is fractured and / or disassembled in some places. The Lisbon Gate and the São Sebastião Chapel are the most expressive elements.

The bastion of São Sebastião is characterized by the Chapel, built before the walled system that surrounds and protects the Villa de Campo Maior. The purpose of theoverwhole intervention is to refunctionalize the space, so it is proposed to rebuild the slab and replace the ceramic roof over a wooden frame. The wooden window frames will be restored and the main door will have a grid in the inner plane that will allow natural ventilation and the observation of the inner space. It is also proposed the replacement of the ceramic floor, the repair of the walls and the restore of the integrated heritage.
